KABUL: On the first day of Ramadan in Afghanistan, 23 security personnel were killed and dozens injured in various Taliban attacks.

According to Afghan media, the attacks took place in Bulg, Badakhshan, Logar, Baghlan and Takhar provinces. 10 were killed in Balkh, 3 in Logar, 6 in Baghlan, 1 in Takhar and 3 in Badakhshan. The Taliban also took five officials hostage in Balkh.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and National Reconciliation Council chief Abdullah Abdullah called on the Taliban to stop attacks during Ramadan and stressed the need for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

It should be noted that US President Joe Biden has announced that the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will start from September 11 this year. Along with the United States, Britain has also decided to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.
