Pakistan Recognizes Positive Impact on the Delivery of Justice

VIENNA: Pakistan recognizes the positive impact on the delivery of justice due to the effective representation of women in the legal and law enforcement institutions. ​

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Vienna, Ambassador Aftab Ahmad Khokher called for the effective representation of women in the legal and law enforcement institutions has a positive impact on the delivery of justice, ensuring the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens, in particular women.

He delivered his remarks at an event to promote the role and collaboration of women in the criminal justice system, co-organized by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), at the sidelines of the ongoing 11th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime (UNTOC).

Ambassador Khokher highlighted that as powerful agents of change, women’s participation in law enforcement has improved police services, enhanced operational effectiveness and stimulated more trust from the population, especially from other women who found these institutions more approachable.

The event brought together female criminal justice practitioners from Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Europe. From Pakistan, SSP Shahla Qureshi, participated in the panel discussion. She outlined her experience in developing technical capacities in countering trafficking in persons and smuggling on migrants.

The 11th Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organised Crime is taking place from 17 till 21 October 2022 in Vienna.
