Karachi : Fishermen in Karachi are besieging the Karachi Port channel. Protests have been going on for about 24 hours but the port has not been reopened yet. Since the closure of the channel, 14 ships have not been able to land so far.
Talks with the fishermen of the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Maritime Affairs Mahmood Maulvi had failed. Mahmood Maulvi says there will be talks again today. If negotiations fail, action will be taken at Karachi Port.
Fishermen demand that they be allowed to hunt in other waters including Balochistan. Boats should be confiscated and heavy fines should be stopped.
Adviser on Maritime Affairs Mahmood Maulvi said that under no circumstances can we keep the port closed like this. Today will be the last round of talks with the fishermen. We have completed all the preparations. If negotiations fail, action will be taken.
He said that things were settled in the night talks but some elements tried to sabotage the talks.
