ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to challenge the PECA Ordinance Amendment Ordinance in the Islamabad High Court.
A petition will be filed in the court by PML-N leader Maryam Aurangzeb and Senator Azam Nazir Tarar.
In this regard, Maryam Aurangzeb said that PML-N has prepared a petition to challenge the law against media and freedom of expression while PML-N has demanded the government to amend the PECA Amendment Ordinance to protect the Constitution and basic human rights. Rejected as a contradiction.
Earlier, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Athar Minullah, while hearing a petition filed by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists against the PECA Amendment Ordinance, stayed the arrests under Section 20 of the PECA Act.
The court also issued notice of assistance to the Attorney General at the request of PFUJ.
On the other hand, Federal Minister for IT Syed Aminul Haq sent a letter to the Prime Minister regarding the PECA Ordinance. It said it did not agree with the amendments because it did not take stakeholders into confidence.
