ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disqualified President National Bank Arif Usmani and Chairman National Bank Zubair Soomro and ordered their immediate removal from office.

According to details, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court delivered a safe verdict on the petition against the notification dated January 12, 2019 for the appointment of President National Bank Arif Usmani.

In the verdict, the court immediately dismissed Chairman National Bank Zubair Soomro and President Usmani and disqualified them both on the ground that their appointment was not on merit.

When the verdict was pronounced in the open court, the four petitioners Lutf Qureshi, Tariq Badar and Nasir Janjua appeared in the court along with their lawyer Dr GM Chaudhry.

The court ruled that the president of the National Bank and the chairman of the National Bank were not eligible for their posts, so both should immediately resign and go home.

It may be recalled that on June 2, the Islamabad High Court had reserved its decision against the appointment of Arif Usmani, President National Bank. The petitioner had challenged the notification dated January 12, 2019 appointing Arif Usmani as President National Bank.

The petition contended that the appointment of Tariq Usmani was not in accordance with the requirements of transparency.
