Doha: Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen says China can play a role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, rehabilitation and development.
In an interview with Chinese state TV, Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen said that China has played a constructive role in promoting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, so we would welcome its role in Afghanistan’s future development. It is one of the world’s superpowers, but unlike the United States, Russia and Britain, China has not yet used force in Afghanistan.
Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen said that China is a big country with huge economy and potential, it can play its role in the reconstruction, rehabilitation and development of Afghanistan.
Sohail Shaheen added that there is still a power vacuum in Afghanistan so the country needs to form a comprehensive government first, all Afghans will be taken into account in the ongoing talks to form a new government and a lot in the coming government. This is a general framework, after which general elections will be held. However, there is still a lot of work to be done and a lot of time is required for this.
Last month, a Taliban delegation met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in China. In this regard, the Chinese Foreign Minister expressed hope that the Afghan Taliban would adopt a policy of moderate Islam.
