Srinagar : Syed Ali Gilani, founder of Tehreek-e-Azadi Kashmir and central Hurriyat leader, was laid to rest under tight security and a strict curfew was imposed on the occasion.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani has been buried under tight security this morning. Occupying Indian forces had allowed only close relatives to attend the funeral and burial.

According to Indian media, Syed Ali Gilani was buried in Haiderpura cemetery at 4.30 am. Indian forces have also sealed Haiderpura cemetery.

Prior to the burial, all movement was banned by the Indian Army throughout occupied Kashmir.

The Azad Kashmir government has declared one day off and three days of mourning on the demise of Syed Ali Gilani. Funeral prayers will also be offered in absentia in all district headquarters of Azad Kashmir today.

It may be recalled that Syed Ali Gilani had passed away yesterday after a long illness. Indian forces occupying Jammu and Kashmir were pressuring for his burial and curfew was imposed in the valley and internet service was suspended.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani met Khaliq-e-Haqiqi at the age of 92. He was under house arrest for a long time despite his illness.

Syed Ali Gilani, the embodiment of determination, has long been the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, an alliance of 26 Kashmiri political and social parties. Earlier, he was a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir and later founded his own party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat.
