Occupational Safety of Sanitation Workers Demands Due Care and Attention

Toba Tek Singh:  Sanitation workers suffer poor working conditions and their services are generally taken for granted. Yet, without them, the sanitation services cannot function. These views were expressed by Mr. Najeeb Aslam, Director Local Government Academy Lala Musa during a training session organized by Centre for Peace and Development Initiative (CPDI) on occupational safety procedures for sanitation workers of Toba Tek Singh under GIZ’s Support to Local Governance Program (LoGo II). He appreciated CPDI and GiZ efforts and cooperation.

This training session aimed at building the capacity of cadres of sanitary workers to work in a safe and effective manner. More than 37 Municipal sanitary workers of Municipal Committee Toba Tek Singh participated in this training. The training participants were equipped with knowledge on health and safety measures, and practical demonstration of the use of Personal Protective Equipment PPE kits.

Mr. Ahmad Jawad Sardar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Toba Tek Singh also participated in the event. He advised to the participants to take keen interest in the training and apply these learnings in the field and further share this knowledge and learnings with other colleagues. Supervisory staff was also present in the training.

At the end of the training, the CPDI team distributed PPE Kits to sanitation workers.
