PESHAWAR: At least 31 people were martyred in Peshawar Blast at the Jamia Masjid of Qissa Khawani during Friday prayers.
According to police, the blast took place at Kocha Risaldar Jama Masjid in Qissa Khawani in which more than 50 people were injured.
Rescue officials say the bodies of those killed in the blast have been brought to Lady Reading Hospital, while the injured are being treated at the hospital.
A spokeswoman for Lady Reading Hospital confirmed that 31 people had been killed in the blast.
The Blast at the mosque was a suicide: SSP Operations
Talking to Geo News, SSP Operations said that the blast at Qissa Khawani Bazaar mosque was a suicide, security was on high alert and two constables were deployed at the gate of the mosque for security.
According to initial reports, the blast was a suicide and the attacker first approached the policeman, then exchanged fire with the terrorists. One policeman was martyred and another was injured in the blast.
Haroon Al-Rasheed said that after the blast, the police have cordoned off the area and rescue operation is underway. Full details will be revealed only after the completion of the operation.
Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene after the blast and cordoned off the area.
Police said that an investigation has been started into the incident and a bomb disposal squad has also been called after which the nature of the blast will be ascertained.
According to an eyewitness, the black-clad suicide bomber first fired five or six shots at the security personnel and then quickly entered the mosque and blew himself up.
An eyewitness said that the suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the pulpit and human organs were scattered all over the hall of the mosque after the blast.
Terrorists first tried to break into mosque
On the other hand, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Saif said that it was reported that the terrorists first tried to enter the mosque, the terrorists exchanged fire with the police, a terrorist entered the mosque and took action.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the Peshawar blast and demanded its report.
The Prime Minister directed to provide immediate medical aid to the injured.
