The Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Lahore and the Higher Education Department, Punjab, jointly organized an awareness session on safe and informed migration at Government College Township, Lahore. The session featured special participation from the Punjab Job Placement team of the Labour and Human Resource Department, Punjab ,including Social Media Expert Tayyab Riaz, Program Manager Rabia Tariq, and Program Officer Ammar Yousaf.
The session aimed to provide authentic information to individuals aspiring for overseas employment, education, and residence, ensuring they are aware of the risks of irregular migration and choose legal and safe pathways.
During the session, MRC Counsellor Umar Shehzad emphasized the importance of always opting for legal channels when planning to migrate, in order to avoid financial and life-threatening risks. He explained that many people migrate in pursuit of a better future but often take irregular routes due to a lack of information.
MRC Counsellor Farhan Mehmood highlighted that some individuals mistakenly believe that illegal methods are quicker and cost-effective, whereas, in reality, these routes can be life-threatening. He stressed the need to always consult government-registered and licensed recruitment agencies or the government-established Overseas Employment Corporation for safe migration.
MRC counsellors further informed the audience that the Migrant Resource Centre is conducting similar awareness sessions across various districts in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to provide free and accurate information on legal and safe migration.
Participants found the session highly beneficial, stating that they gained new and valuable insights about safe migration. They appreciated MRC’s efforts and expressed hope for more such awareness sessions in the future.
