US : Derek Shaven, a former police officer involved in the murder of George Floyd, has been convicted of all three charges.
Police have arrested him from the court room. The convict was convicted of second-degree murder.
US President Joe Biden has said in his statement on the verdict in the George Floyd murder case that racism is a disgrace on the soul of our nation.
The president also called George Floyd’s family. “We are also relieved by the court’s decision,” Biden said.
After the verdict, people outside the court chanted “Black Lives Meter” to express their happiness.
Last year, footage surfaced of Derek Schwain holding his knee to George Floyd’s neck.
Demonstrations against racism took place across the United States for several days after the footage came to light.
According to the post-mortem report, Derek Shaven knelt on George Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds, of which Floyd became immobile about three minutes later.
