The hearing of the suo motu notice on the constitutional situation in the country will be held today, the larger bench of the Supreme Court will hear at one o’clock in the afternoon.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial had taken suo motu notice of the situation arising in the National Assembly session yesterday.
Justice Omar Ata Bandial wrote in a written judgment that the fellow judges had approached the Chief Justice and expressed concern over the constitutional situation in the country.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar issued an order stating that the Deputy Speaker, using Article 5, did not obtain the results of the inquiry in principle and did not hear the affected party. The Supreme Court directed that any state institution and official should refrain from any unconstitutional action. Any order issued by the President and the Prime Minister would be subject to the order of the Supreme Court.
The court also directed the Home Secretary and Defense to submit a report on steps taken to maintain law and order.
The Supreme Court issued notice to Advocate General Punjab on the situation arising in the Punjab Assembly and directed that the appointment of new Chief Minister of Punjab be carried out in a constitutional and peaceful manner.
