India : A devastating plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad, India, late Wednesday, claiming the lives of over 242 people on board. The Air India flight, en route to London, crashed seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport in the state of Gujarat. The aircraft had 253 people on board, including 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals, as well as 12 crew members.
According to reports, the plane, a Boeing 787, was flying at a speed of 322 km/h and reached an altitude of only 625 feet before crashing due to technical reasons. The captain made a Mayday call at 1:39 am, mere moments before the crash. Flight operations at Ahmedabad airport have been suspended, and an emergency has been declared at local hospitals.
The Indian Health Minister has confirmed multiple fatalities, and videos from the crash site show smoke rising from the wreckage. The DG Civil Aviation has announced an investigation into the incident. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani was reportedly among the passengers.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims.
