An Interesting & Inspiring Political Event in The HAGUE

Hague: March 10 was, what the organisers called it, “The Hague Local Election Night”, a joint campaign for the forthcoming local election on March 18. It was jointly organised by the Hague Volunteer Team with their partners Access and Holland Park Media in the Heart of the Hague City. I was among some three hundred guests there along with my Dutch friend Jordi. The most interesting and inspiring thing was that the stage was shared by the candidates of all political parties. They all sat together and described their party agenda and program. Nobody criticised anybody. They just talked about issues and their solutions.

Although each party differed slightly in respect of its priorities, all candidates pledged to make the Hague a safer, cleaner and united city that houses people from various social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The native Dutch speakers committed to maintain the International Character of the Hague by political tolerance and inclusiveness. The event was coordinated by Tetyana Benzeroual and moderated by Tom Lash.

Quayyum Raja's full official name is Abdul Quayyum Raja, but the British press shortened his name when he was arrested in connection with an Indian diplomat kidnapped by his fellow KASHMIRIS in Birmingham in 1984 to save the life of a Kashmiri Hero Muhammad Maqbool Butt hanged by India and buried inside Tihar jail on 11 February 1984. Quayyum Raja is from Azad Jammu Kashmir administered by Pakistan. He acquired various qualifications from EU and UK, including a Master in Psychology & Social Sciences, Journalism and Modern World History. He supports both Pan Islam and Pluralism, which may sound a contradiction, but he claims he can draw a balance. Quayyum Raja spent about 22 years in British jail extra-juducially as a Kashmiri political prisoner. He was released by the European Court of Human Rights on 17 May 2005. He has travelled extensively both before his captivity and after his release.
