I have only been here a few weeks. It is located in Northwestern Europe bordering the North Sea to the North and West, Germany to the East and Belgium to the South. A quarter of its 41,865 area is below the sea. The birth rate remains stable. It was about 15 million 40 years ago and has increased by three million to date despite the fact that it has naturalised many Turkish, Marokans, Surinamese and South Asian guest workers.. It is now a multi-cultural society.
Three Netherlands cities are among the most famous cities in the world. Amsterdam is famous for canals, lakes and flowers attracting a large number of tourists. Rotterdam is globally renowned as Europe’s largest most technologically advanced seaport, while the Hague is the Seat of Government and International Court of Justice. The Netherlands is a very well-developed welfare state with a highly skilful and physically and mentally healthy community in the world.
However, what I am most impressed by is its social, cultural and political tolerance and its effective and compassionate administration. Civil servants are very communicative and responsive. No matter the department, applicants do not have to pursue their files. The files pursue them. If and when an application is made, a Case Worker is immediately appointed, who will start working on the application without any unnecessary delay and contact the applicant once the work has been done.
There are a number of political parties and interest groups believing in democratic consensus. This is one of the qualities of any stable society. The Netherlands was a founding member of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951 considered to be the predecessor to the Modern European Union.
